- require pcre version at runtime it was compiled with, or strange errors occour:
  PHP Warning:  preg_match_all(): Compilation failed: unknown option bit(s) set at offset 0
  for '/./u' (PCRE8) modifier
  noticed at least with pcre-8.12 vs pcre-8.02
